Purpose of the Role:
Scholars School System is seeking to appoint an experienced Lecturer in Community Youth and Families to support the delivery of a new undergraduate programme. The successful candidate will have a strong emphasis on teaching, learning and related activities to support student academic success related to community engagement, youth development, social policy, and youth leadership.
The Lecturer will collaborate with colleagues across the institution to enhance academic standards, support student progression, and contribute to the school’s strategic aims and values of inclusion, integrity, and professional development
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and high-quality teaching across a range of modules in Community Youth and Family Studies.
Support students’ academic and professional development through teaching, supervision, and pastoral care.
Act as a module lead or deputy, ensuring academic excellence and compliance with quality assurance standards.
Develop innovative and inclusive teaching resources, including digital and experiential learning materials.
Integrate real-world case studies, policy analysis, and applied projects into learning and assessment.
Contribute to curriculum development to reflect current practice, research, and sector priorities in youth and family work.
Engage in research, scholarship, or professional practice to inform teaching and maintain subject expertise.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective programme delivery and student support across campuses.
Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching, learning, and student engagement.
Undertake administrative and committee responsibilities as required to support academic operations.
Person Specification:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree (MSc) in Community Youth Work, Family Studies, Social Sciences, or a related discipline – Essential
PhD or EdD in a relevant discipline - Desirable
Higher Education teaching qualification (PGCert, SFHEA, AFHEA, or FHEA)
Relevant professional registration or membership (e.g., JNC-recognised Youth Worker status)
Minimum of three years’ experience teaching, training, or professional practice in the sports industry within the UK
Experience of delivering learning in Higher Education
Experience incorporating applied learning or real-world projects
Experience of module leadership and academic administration
Experience integrating applied learning and reflective practice in teaching
Proficiency in using virtual learning environments (e.g., Moodle, Canvas), digital tools, and blended learning methodologies
Knowledge of formative and summative assessment methods, marking criteria, and feedback strategies that support student learning
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to varied audiences
What we offer:
The salary for this role ranges from £36,000 to £40,000 depending on the candidate’s level of experience.
Holiday entitlement is 28 days annual leave, excluding bank holidays.
Up to £5k annual incentives pro-rata given quarterly on meeting KPIs after successful probationary period.
