We have an opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager (NEBOSH Qualified) to be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health and safety programs and policies across the campus’s. This role ensures compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and oversees risk management initiatives to protect students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local, county, and government regulations.
Ensure that health and safety policies are communicated effectively to all SSS stakeholders.
Risk Assessment and Management:
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits of campus facilities and operations.
Identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.
Develop emergency response and evacuation plans.
Training and Education:
Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for students, staff, and faculty.
Provide guidance and support to all departments in implementing health and safety practices.
Promote awareness of health and safety issues through workshops, seminars, and informational campaigns.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
Investigate health and safety incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain records of incidents, inspections, and safety-related activities.
Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay current with health and safety regulations and ensure campus compliance.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors regarding health and safety matters.
Emergency Management:
Coordinate campus emergency preparedness and response activities.
Lead the university's emergency management team and conduct regular drills and exercises.
Sustainability and Environmental Health:
Promote and support environmental health initiatives and sustainability practices on campus.
Oversee waste management and hazardous materials programs.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with all departments, including Facilities Management, Student Services, Human Resources, and Academics, to ensure a safe campus environment.
Act as the primary point of contact for health and safety matters.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in a higher education or similar setting.
Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead and motivate teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Preferred Qualifications:

·  Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

·  NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualification, such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate or NEBOSH International General Certificate.

·  Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in a higher education or similar setting.

·  Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.

·  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·  Ability to lead and motivate teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software

 

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

·         Ability to conduct inspections and assessments across various campus locations.

·         Capability to respond to emergencies during and after regular work hours.

·         May require lifting of safety equipment and materials.
